European Living – Introducing Living Capital Markets

Simon Scott, UK Living Capital Markets Lead Director, discusses how changing demographics, social and economic drivers are fuelling investment decisions as investors put a greater focus on Living asset classes (including student housing, residential and healthcare.

Shifts in demographics and macro trends have resulted in investors turning their eyes to Living asset classes as they look to secure diversity at scale. Although not fully defined, these subsectors represent purpose-built housing for different demographic groups, with an interaction between each other along a generational journey, from student housing to retirement living.

Simon Scott discusses how we should start to categorise these much more maturing asset classes as a single point of excellence, and how this can offer diversification for investors across the Living spectrum. He also comments institutions are beginning to consider the importance of a social purpose in their investments, along with strong performance and defensive characteristics, and how this is a key driver for growth in this market.

‘’The ability to match capital to a really significant increase in demand is really quite clear.’’
